The Major Taylor Bicycling Club of Minnesota is nearing twenty years old, and has been a leader in a movement of similar clubs around the nation. Its commitment is to be a social/recreational club that promotes safe and fun cycling geared towards African-American communities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Louis Moore, President and Founder, will join Ride Coordinator and documentarian Walter Griffin to talk about the club’s history and impact.

Presenters

Louis Moore is President and founding member of Major Taylor Minnesota. He has been actively involved with the Twin-Cities Cycling community for over 50 years. He has served on The Minnesota Bike Advisory, Board member of Bike Minnesota, Hennepin County Advisory board, Bike Walk Minnesota and early involvement in Mid-Town Greenway, instrumental in helping to launch the Sabo Bridge and worked to get bike lanes in Minnesota. Louis has been a tireless advocate for cycling in Minnesota. Louis is married with three children, and is retired as Minnesota House of Representative aid to Martin Sabo.

Walter Griffin taught photography for over 40 years, is a visual historian, and has documented the cycling movement through the United States. He is a founding member of Major Taylor Minnesota and is Major Taylor Documentarian. Walter has been active in the cycling community for over 30 years. He has designed rides that highlight the culture that exist in Minnesota. He has been actively involved with Minneapolis/St. Paul Tour de Cure, Open Streets, St. Paul Classic, Dark 2 Dawn overnight ride, Rondo and Juneteenth rides, and various community parades that highlight cycling.

Noon - 4pm, Open Vault

1pm - 2pm, SpokesPeople speakers in the theater

Open Vault and talks are at Saint Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral, 519 Oak Grove St, Minneapolis, MN 55403. Enter via the blue “Welcome” awning on the east side of the church. Free parking available by the entrance.

Light refreshments will be available after each talk.
